Two Soldiers Prescribed 54 Drugs: Military Mental Health "Treatment" Becomes Frankenpharmacy

The mental health watchdog Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) announces the second in a four-part series by journalist Kelly Patricia O'Meara exploring the epidemic of suicides in the military and the correlation to dramatic increases in psychiatric drug prescriptions to treat the emotional scars of battle. The second installment covers psycho-pharma's disastrous chemical experimentation within the military ending in sudden unexplained deaths, including those of Marine corporal Andrew White and Senior Airman Anthony Mena who were prescribed a total of 54 drugs between them.

Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) October 31, 2012

By Kelly Patricia O?Meara, for the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR)

"The devastating adverse effects mind-altering psychiatric drugs may be having on the nation's military troops are best summed up by Mary Shelley's Dr. Frankenstein, writing 'nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.'

"Just as the fictional character, Dr. Frankenstein, turned to experiments in the laboratory to create life with fantastically horrific results, the psychiatric community, along with its pharmaceutical sidekicks, has turned to modern day chemical concoctions to alter the human mind. The result is what many believe is a growing number of equally hideous results culminating in senseless deaths, tormented lives and grief-stricken families.

"The nation's military troops are taking their lives at record numbers and seemingly healthy soldiers are dying from sudden unexplained deaths. That's a fact. The data are clear, yet, despite growing evidence pointing to the enemy among us, the monstrous psycho-pharmacological experiment continues."

In the second installment of a four-part series, O?Meara examines the sudden unexplained deaths within the military tied to psychiatric drug use, including two soldiers who between them, were prescribed a whopping 54 drugs including Seroquel, Effexor, Paxil, Prozac, Remeron, Wellbutrin, Xanax, Zoloft, Ativan, Celexa, Cymbalta, Depakote, Haldol, Klonopin, Lexapro, Lithium, Lunesta, Compazine, Desyrel, Trileptal and Valium.

  • Marine corporal Andrew White, was a healthy 23-year-old, gung-ho Marine returning from a nine-month tour in Iraq, who, like so many of his brothers in arms, suffered from the seemingly normal stresses of war - insomnia, nightmares and restlessness. The young corporal turned to the military's mental health system for help. But eleven months after beginning his first cocktail of mind-altering psychiatric drugs, he died in his sleep from what the medical examiner ruled an "accidental overdose of medication." Since taking his first multi-drug cocktail to the date of his death, White had been prescribed no less than nineteen different drugs with many at ever-increasing dosages.

  • Twenty-three -year old Anthony (Tony) Mena had completed two tours in Iraq as part of Kirtland Air Force Base's 377th Security Forces Squadron. Like so many others returning from combat, Mena suffered from insomnia, restlessness and nightmares?and like Andrew White, became a victim of the military's mental health mind-altering multi-drug approach to treatment. Between January of 2008 and his death in July 2009, Mena had been prescribed no less than 35 prescription drugs, including numerous antidepressants, pain killers, tranquilizers and muscle relaxers.

O'Meara details how these two men exemplify the ever-increasing numbers of young, seemingly healthy soldiers who survived the horrors of war only to return home to fight, and lose, their toughest battle. They are among a growing list of sudden deaths among military personnel, which many believe is due to sudden cardiac arrest brought on by the drug cocktails being prescribed. Fred Baughman Jr., MD, who has been researching these questionable deaths, believes that the few that are known are just the "tip of the iceberg."

Kelly Patricia O?Meara is a book author and former award winning investigative reporter for the Washington Times, Insight Magazine. Prior to working as an investigative journalist, O?Meara spent sixteen years on Capitol Hill as a congressional staffer to four Members of Congress. She holds a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Maryland.

Bahrain must lift ban on all protests: Amnesty

DUBAI (Reuters) - Bahrain must lift its total ban on opposition protests, which violates the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, rights group Amnesty International said on Wednesday.

Bahrain, a U.S. ally which hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, has been in political turmoil since pro-democracy protests led by its Shi'ite Muslim majority erupted last year and were put down by the island's Sunni Muslim rulers.

On Tuesday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashed bin Abdullah al-Khalifa said the Gulf Arab kingdom had banned all rallies and gatherings to ensure public safety and prevent violence.

Bahrain's Information Affairs Authority (IAA) said in a statement on Wednesday the minister had stressed that the ban was temporary until security and stability are restored.

He said the move was necessary because violence accompanying marches and gatherings had disrupted traffic, affected trade and the economy and damaged private property.

London-based Amnesty said the measure nullified the rights to freedom of association, expression and assembly.

"Even in the event of sporadic or isolated violence once an assembly is under way, the authorities cannot simply declare a blanket prohibition on all protests," said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, its Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director.

"Law enforcement officials must act to protect peaceful protesters rather than using the violent acts of a few as a pretext to restrict or impede the rights of all."

Bahrain's leading opposition party Wefaq described the ban as an attempt to silence it.

"We reject this decision and consider it against our constitutional right. There is no reason for it because all our events are peaceful," Wefaq official Sayed Hadi al-Mousawi told Reuters from Manama, adding that he feared the prohibition might lead to more tension in the street.

Britain has expressed concern over the ban but also called on demonstrators to "desist from violent protest".

"A blanket ban of this nature is excessive," Alistair Burt, Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, said on Tuesday.

"Peaceful protest is a democratic right. I hope the Bahraini government will rescind this measure as quickly as possible."

Bahrain has banned a series of protests organized by Wefaq in the past few months. A senior official said in July the government had no plans to ban rallies outright, but wanted to ensure they did not turn violent.

Since April the authorities have stepped up efforts to crack down on unrest. Activists cite an increased use of shotgun pellets, whose use officials have declined to confirm or deny.

Activists have been sentenced to jail for organizing or taking part in unlicensed anti-government protests.

The ruling Al Khalifa family used martial law and help from Gulf neighbors to put down last year's uprising, but unrest has resumed. Shi'ite protesters and police clash almost daily.

On October 19, a policeman was killed and another critically wounded in a bomb attack while on patrol in south Manama.

The IAA quoted Sheikh Rashed as saying that security forces were conducting a search for suspects in the attack that killed the 19-year-old policeman, denying what he said were rumors that a siege had been imposed on the village of Eker.

"Citizens of any country in the world would understand the necessity of implementing security measures to control, but not close, the entrances to the village in order to conduct a thorough investigation into an officer's death," he said.

Bahrain bans all protest gatherings amid violence

MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) ? Bahrain imposed emergency-style rules Tuesday banning all protest gatherings and threating legal action against groups considered backing escalating demonstrations and clashes in the strategic Gulf kingdom.

The order, announced by the Interior Ministry, is the most sweeping attempt to quash the kingdom's anti-government uprising since martial law rules were in effect during the early months of unrest last year. It sharply increases pressure on political groups from Bahrain's Shiite Muslim majority, which has led the protests seeking a greater political voice in the Sunni Muslim-ruled nation.

Tougher steps against opposition groups could raise complications for Washington and other Western allies that have stood by Bahrain's monarchy during more than 20 months of unrest. The U.S. has important military bonds with Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, but it also has called for increased efforts at dialogue to ease the tensions.

Shiites comprise about 70 percent of Bahrain's 525,000 citizens, but claim they face systematic discrimination such as being denied top political and security posts. The Sunni monarchy has made a series of concessions ? including giving more powers to the elected parliament ? but opposition groups say the reforms do little to loosen the ruling family's hold on power.

More than 50 people have been killed in Bahrain's unrest since February 2011. Among them were two policemen who died this month from injuries suffered in attacks by firebombs and explosives.

A statement by the Interior Ministry said Bahraini society was "fed up" with near nonstop demonstrations and clashes and "there was a need to put an end to them." Bahrain's government has permitted limited protests and marches, but much of the violence occurs outside the authorized gatherings.

It added that any "illegal rally or gathering would be tackled through legal actions against those calling for and participating in it."

This warning appeared aimed particularly at the largest Shiite political bloc, Al-Wefaq, which has organized many opposition marches. Another rally is planned for Friday.

An Al-Wefaq official, Hadi al-Musawi, struck a defiant tone, calling the Interior Ministry order "against international human rights."

Other Gulf states have placed limits on political expression amid worries that movements inspired by last year's so-called Arab Spring uprisings could threaten their ruling systems. Last week, Kuwait banned all public gatherings of more than 20 people following opposition protests before parliamentary elections on Dec. 1.

Hurricane Sandy Viral Photos ? For Better or For Worse, What You ...

Just like all of you, I spend a sizeable portion of my day with Facebook open in one of the many tabs of my Google Chrome browser. I do it for work; other typical explanations include social media addiction, boredom, or a bad case of the Mondays. Either way, I?m confident that a great majority of people that spent any time on social media on Monday caught a great deal of images, comments, posts, updates, and tweets related to Hurricane Sandy.

Among all the hullabaloo there were several images that began to circulate rather quickly, including an inundated Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and various New York City skylines cowering under ominous-looking masses of cloud. As it turns out, most of these images are fake. Not fake as in they never happened fake ? fake as in, those photos had nothing to do with Hurricane Sandy fake.

Amazing, inspiring, fake photos.

This image was actually a normal picture of the Statue of Liberty, Photoshopped against the background of a 2004 Nebraska storm.

People share viral pieces for different reasons. We?ve all had the ?Oh, you haven?t seen _______ yet? You have to check it out!? conversation. The very point of social media is to share compelling content with our friends (both literal and metaphorical), and that won?t change. But with the sensationalistic and incorrect information that gains legs during this kind of huge story, how do users start shaking out the details? More importantly, does a willingness to instantly share a doctored photo reflect poorly on your own (or, Heaven forbid, your business?s) credibility?

It wasn?t long after the first round of photos circulated through the interwebs that articles began to identify these photos as the phonies that they were. I?ll be honest?? I saw some of the photos on my own feed and thought they were fantastic. It didn?t even cross my mind that they were fake.

This image was taken from the poster for the 2004 environmental disaster film The Day After Tomorrow.

Here?s where the social Internet?s famed capacity for instantaneous reaction kicks in and things get interesting. Those who resisted the allure of the initial photo insta-share were all too happy to spread the damning info, and those who initially shared the photos suffered the e-stigma of falling for a hoax ??followers of the accounts who spread the tainted photos are surely feeling exasperated at their friends? willingness to hop on the bandwagon. As in the Kony 2012 debacle, sensationalistic content is tempting to share, but if it turns out to be false your followers may have a real problem with your willingness to mislead them. Love it or hate it, the Internet is a breeding ground for high-speed rumor-mongering, but we?re now also allowed high-speed debunking ? which can lead to a crucial loss of credibility in your networks.

Does the question of journalistic responsibility come into play with regard to such a disconnected network as the social media sphere? Can we just assume that eventually the truth will prevail? The actual source often becomes so removed from the images that go viral that it?s hard to tell what?s what. Some will always be quick to share, and others quick to skepticism. While news stories of this magnitude offer an unparalleled opportunity for organic, viral sharing, it?s important to remember that the Internet?s capacity for tweaking or losing the truth entirely is mighty ? if you try to harness the power of a breaking news story, pay attention to your sources or you may find yourself losing social (media) capital.

What fake viral media has affected you recently? Have you found yourself unwittingly sharing a less-than-veritable tidbit, and what were your followers? reactions?

Master Skills to Prevent Weight Yo-Yo Before New Diet - Psych Central

Master Skills to Prevent Weight Yo-Yo Before New Diet A provocative new weight loss approach asks women to not lose weight for the first eight weeks of the program.

Researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine found women who spent eight weeks mastering weight-maintenance skills before embarking on a weight-loss program shed the same number of pounds as women who started a weight-loss program immediately.

Moreover, the ?maintenance-first? women regained only 3 pounds on average a year later, compared to the average 7-pound gain for the immediate dieters.

The study?s authors say that the maintenance-first approach may offer a way to halt the cycle of yo-yo dieting.

?Those eight weeks were like a practice run. Women could try out different stability skills and work out the kinks without the pressure of worrying about how much weight they had lost,? said lead author Michaela Kiernan, PhD.

?We found that waiting those eight weeks didn?t make the women any less successful at losing weight. But even better, women who practiced stability first were more successful in maintaining that loss after a year.?

The study is published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology.

Experts say that a modest weight loss of 5-10 percent of body weight can significantly decrease the risk factors for heart disease.

However, for many, weight loss is often put back on in the weeks following the diet.

Over the years, Kiernan has interviewed both those who have succeeded and those who have failed at keeping the pounds off. She was particularly struck by one woman who said that she had never ?maintained? her weight in her life; instead, she was always either losing or gaining.

?She had no sense what she was aiming for,? Kiernan said. ?We wanted to see if there was a way to help people get away from this all-or-nothing approach that is associated with losing weight.?

Conceptually, weight maintenance may require a different set of skills and behaviors than those used for losing weight.

As such, Kiernan her colleagues came up with the idea to teach weight-maintenance skills first so that people could experience how to fine-tune their behavior in response to everyday pleasures and disruptions rather than being ?on? or ?off? a diet.

Weight stability skills include finding low-fat or low-calorie foods that taste as good as high-fat/high-calorie options to avoid feelings of deprivation and occasionally eating and savoring small amounts of favorite high-fat/high-calorie foods.

Additional tips include weighing daily to see how body weight naturally fluctuates from day to day; and strategically losing a few pounds before a known disruption (such as a vacation) to minimize its effects.

Kiernan said the approach is designed to help people make peace with the scale and learn how to pay ?relaxed attention? to their weight in ways that can be maintained over the long term ? without keeping food records.

?Losing a significant amount of weight requires a lot of focused attention to what you?re doing, and most people can?t keep up that intensity over the long term,? Kiernan said. ?For weight maintenance, we wanted something that would make the day-to-day experience positive while not requiring overwhelming amounts of effort.?

For the study, 267 overweight/obese women were randomized into one of two groups. The women in the control group immediately began taking part in a 20-week behavioral weight-loss program that encouraged greater intake of vegetables and fruit, increased physical activity and use of proven dieting strategies, such as keeping daily food records.

The women attended weekly 90-minute sessions with a group facilitator to learn problem-solving skills aimed at losing weight. At the end of 20 weeks, they spent eight weeks using a similar problem-solving approach to learn weight-maintenance skills.

By contrast, the women in the maintenance-first group spent the initial eight weeks learning the stability skills Kiernan?s group had developed.

The women were asked not to lose any weight during that time; if they did lose a few pounds, they were asked to gain them back. Kiernan said this skill mimics a more real-world approach for maintaining weight within a range of a few pounds, rather than aiming for a single number on the scale.

After the eight weeks were up, the women embarked on the same 20-week weight-loss program as the women in the control group.

After both groups completed their 28-week programs, Kiernan said the results showed that the women on average lost a similar amount of weight ? about 17 pounds, or roughly 9 percent of their initial weight. Once the weekly group sessions stopped, the women were on their own for the following year.

?We scheduled the weekly sessions to end in October so that the women would have to navigate the holidays by themselves, without any guidance from the group facilitators,? said Kiernan, the principal investigator for the study. ?We wanted this to mirror real-life conditions as much as possible.?

When the women were weighed one year later after no contact with their group facilitators, Kiernan said she and her collaborators were pleased to see that the maintenance-first women had regained only 3 pounds on average, compared to a 7-pound average gain for the control group. She added that the 3-pound gain falls squarely within the personalized range that the women were taught to use.

Additionally, 33 percent of the women in the maintenance-first group displayed what the researchers categorize as a favorable pattern ? that is, losing at least 5 percent of their body weight without regaining more than 5 pounds over the course of a year ? compared with 18 percent of the women in the control group.

Kiernan said the maintenance-first approach, though sounding a bit unorthodox, could be a useful tool for those who are trying to slim down and be healthier. ?This approach helps people learn how to make small, quick adjustments that can help them maintain their weight without requiring a lot of effort,? she said.

Know how to keep weight off before you lose it ? The Chart - CNN ...

With all the talk about obesity in America, you might be surprised to know that most people are pretty good at losing weight.

Weight loss programs have proven effective in helping people drop pounds. But keeping them off is another story.

Studies have shown that overweight participants typically give up their newly learned health habits and regain 30 to 50% of the weight they lost within one year, even if they participate in a post-weight loss maintenance program.

?There?s something we?re missing in terms of what it takes to maintain our weight,? says Michaela Kiernan, an expert in behavioral weight management at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.

Kiernan is the lead author on a new study publishing in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology titled ?Promoting Healthy Weight with ?Stability Skills First.??

Kiernan and her colleagues hypothesized that people would keep weight off better if they practiced doing so first. Their hypothesis was based on social cognitive theory ? that having confidence in your ability to do something actually helps you do it.

The study

More than 260 overweight and obese females were split randomly into two groups. Both groups participated in a six-month ?intervention? period that included a weight loss program and a weight maintenance program.

In the ?weight loss first? group, the women participated in a 20-week behavioral weight loss program, followed by an eight-week ?problem-solving? maintenance program. Their maintenance program addressed obstacles the women might face in the upcoming year.

In the ?maintenance first? group, the women participated in an eight-week ?stability skills? maintenance program, where they were asked not to lose any weight.

They learned how to fine-tune their eating behaviors ? savoring food mindfully, for instance, or leaving small amounts on their plate ? ?to get away from the idea that you?re either on a diet or off a diet,? Kiernan says. That group then participated in an identical 20-week weight loss program.

The results

Both groups lost an average of 16 pounds during the six-month intervention program. But after 12 months, the ?weight loss first? group had gained back an average of seven pounds. In comparison, the ?maintenance first? group had only gained back three pounds.

Why?

The study capitalizes on two key factors for weight loss maintenance: Confidence and motivation, says Kim Gorman, weight management program director for the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the University of Colorado. Gorman was not involved with the research.

Asking ?maintenance first? participants not to lose weight during the first eight weeks allowed them to learn important skills without fear, Gorman says.

?I say fear because so many of my folks lose a significant amount of weight and then fear a slight shift upward means the boat is sinking. I think (the study authors) contended with the emotional impacts associated with the scale ? in short, they were prepared.?

Gorman was pleased to see that the ?maintenance first? group didn?t lose their motivation for losing weight ? evidenced by the fact that both groups dropped the same amount in six months.

Kiernan says the maintenance group may have benefited from that early energy. ?Most of the time by the time they get to maintenance, they?re pooped,? she says. ?This way it?s kind of a protected time to try things.?

Going forward

Because the study incorporated new timing (maintenance first) and new skills (stability over problem-solving) for one group, it?s impossible to tell if one or both was behind the ?maintenance first? group?s success. Going forward Kiernan would like to ?untangle? those, she says. ?Is it the content or the order??

The researchers would also like to duplicate the study in men and see if technology ? like e-mail alerts or online classes ? could play a bigger role.

Blind tennis players keep their ears on the ball - NewsOn6.com ...

By TERENCE CHEA
Associated Press

FREMONT, Calif. (AP) - Learning how to play tennis is hard enough. Now try it when you can't see.

That's what students are doing at the California School for the Blind. They're learning a form of tennis adapted for the visually impaired - and expanding the boundaries of what the blind can do.

The state-supported campus in Fremont is one of three American schools for the blind that recently began teaching adapted tennis, which was invented in Japan in the 1980s. A nonprofit group called Tennis Serves is working to promote the sport throughout the U.S.

"I didn't know someone with no vision could play tennis until I came to this school," said a 16-year-old student from Modesto named Jonathan. The school declined to provide his last name, citing a state law that protects the privacy of students with disabilities.

Blind tennis features a smaller court, lower net and junior tennis rackets with bigger heads and shorter handles. String is taped to the floor so players can feel the boundaries with their feet.

Players use a foam ball filled with metal beads that rattle on impact, allowing them to locate the ball when it hits the ground or racket. Once served, they have to return the ball before it bounces three times.

"The most difficult thing to teach is timing their stroke," said Sejal Vallabh, the 17-year-old founder of Tennis Serves. "Being able to listen to the ball, locate it using their sense of hearing and swing at the precise moment the ball goes by is really difficult to teach."

While experienced players can keep the ball in bounds and stage extended rallies, just hitting the ball over the net can be a challenge for beginners. During a recent visit to the California School for the Blind, students mostly swatted balls into the ground, the net and toward the ceiling and walls. Few balls were returned, but teachers say some are developing that capability.

Blind tennis was created in 1984 by Miyoshi Takei, a blind Japanese high school student who designed the adapted ball and helped the sport gain popularity in Japan and other Asian countries. He dominated blind tennis competitions until he was killed in a train accident last year at age 42.

Vallahb, an avid tennis player who is now a high school senior in Newton, Mass., first encountered blind tennis two years while doing a summer internship in Japan, where her grandmother lives.

"After I saw it there, I knew that I wanted to recreate the sport that I had seen back in the U.S.," she said, so she started Tennis Serves.

Vallabh first began teaching at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Mass. with help from her high school tennis teammates. She then helped start similar programs at Lighthouse International in New York City and the California School for the Blind.

Vallabh is working with engineering students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif. to design a ball that continuously beeps to make it easier for blind players to track it.

At the California School for the Blind, staff members said they were skeptical when Vallabh first approached them about teaching the adapted sport.

"We were thinking, 'How are we going to teach tennis?" said Mary Alice Ross, who teaches adapted physical education. "My colleague said, 'Tennis is like teaching football. It's not something we really do.'"

The California School for the Blind, which has about 90 students ages 5 to 22, offers many adapted sports activities and sports, including bowling, boating, swimming, hiking, ice-skating and goal-ball.

Tennis is one of the most difficult sports for the visually impaired, but it brings unique rewards, teachers say.

"When it comes to being able to play a sport which is commonly only played by people with good vision, it's a big self-esteem boost." said John Healy, a dorm counselor who teaches adapted tennis.

A 12-year-old student named Sebastian said he was surprised when he first heard about the adapted sport.

"Tennis? How could blind people play tennis?" he said. "But then I was like, blind people can do anything they want. If you set your mind to it, then you can do it."

Is It Time To Pick A Baby Name Yet? | Pregnancy Week By Week

A fantastic way to choose a baby name is to use the name of someone who was inspiring in your life. Maybe it is someone that is well known, or someone that you know in person. Movie or TV characters, or anything imaginary, could also be the source of your inspiration. Always consider the possible consequences for any baby name that you favor, even if it is a name that would seemingly worked just fine. Let?s say that you have a girl, and you name her Oprah after Oprah Winfrey. This will probably work. Taking a name from a trilogy like Lord of the Rings, or Star Trek, might not be one of your best options. Your child may end up getting harassed everyday, even though you liked the name when you initially gave it.

You really have to question yourself this question ? do you want a traditional or weird name for your baby. This is something you need to choose. Both benefits and drawbacks come with each one. You might consider a square name safer and more respectable. Some will find these names too dull to use. It is possible that your child could have a very unique name, and the memorable, but not like it later due to how weird it is. It is probably best to stay on the conservative side if you?re not sure what to do. It is possible that children will not like their unusual name later on in life. This is okay because they can go with a nickname instead. You need to do something, before making the final choice on the name for your baby that you are seriously considering. Search the whole name on the Internet. You never know what kind of information you could find, that would make you go to a different name. Confusing situations could take place, when the same name is shared by someone even slightly well known. If you find that someone with that name was convicted of a serious crime, you might want to change. This is a more vital choice, the more unique the name is going to be. All kinds of people have a name like Mary or John Smith, so in that case, it won?t matter. Facebook and other social networks are places where you can look up full names, and find out if the name is shared by many people.

Your list can consist of recommended names and ones that you have always loved. Obviously, don?t write down any names that you already dislike since you will never pick them anyway. As you go through the list, remove the names that you don?t want. The name of the child will always be chosen by the parents, although family and friends can offer their input if they want to.

Don?t forget that lots of names will end up being condensed. The character of some people is what is behind the nickname. For example, Robert will likely be called Rob or Bob. Following along these same lines; Pat would be small for Patricia. You may want to consider how the name may be misused or changed up. Be aware that there are lots of names that rowdy children can mix up to play cruel tricks and could be hurtful to your child. There are some kids that will grab every chance to poke fun at their peers and a name could give them something to work with. You need to take the name you have chosen and figure out every which way it could be twisted around. We?ve looked at a few useful ways to select a name for your baby. You might have thought it was going to be simple, but that is not always the case. You need to find a name that your child will like, when it matters, and what both parents are pleased with. Before you pick a name, reckon about all of the reasons why you want to have that name.

Baby names are fun to pick, and you can get help with the names at many locations. You have a lot of choices in regard to resources for baby names. You could use a family name, the name of a friend, or even a name that sounds just right. Just use the thoughts in this article to help you make your choice, even though, eventually, you will make a choice on your own. Eventually, you are going to take the baby name that you like the most. Remember there may be consequences, but in the end, it will be the right one for you and them.

Expecting a baby and naming it is such a wonderfully exciting time. What can be a small unsettling but is how rapidly your body will change and how you have to buy new clothes to feel comfortable and confident. We?ve got the lowdown on how to be pregnant and stylish. What you need are nice maternity dresses on the grounds that if you were to buy maternity clothes, invest one that makes you look excellent. You?re baby bump deserves this! Anyway back to baby name picking.

Naming your baby is a fun experience. It is rewarding, but long-lasting, depending upon how much research you do. Parents who are looking forward to having a new member of their family are nervous to find the ideal name for him or her.

Consumer spending picks up, but savings a worry

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Consumer spending rose solidly in September, putting the economy on a firmer footing heading into the fourth quarter even though households had to pull back on saving to fund purchases.

The Commerce Department said on Monday that consumer spending rose 0.8 percent, the largest increase since February, after an unrevised 0.5 percent gain in August.

Spending accounts for about 70 percent of U.S. economic activity and last month's increase offered a strong hand off from the July-September period to the current quarter.

"The jumping off point, or the base point, is already pretty high. You have a lot of momentum going into the fourth quarter," said Ellen Zentner, a senior U.S. economist at Nomura Securities in New York.

The rise beat economist's expectations for a 0.6 percent increase last month. When adjusted for inflation, consumer spending rose 0.4 percent after edging up 0.1 percent in August.

Bond and currency markets showed little reaction, while the U.S. stock market was closed as New York braced for a hit from Hurricane Sandy.

The spending figures were incorporated into last Friday's report on third-quarter gross domestic product. Consumer spending increased at a 2 percent annual pace during the quarter after rising at a 1.5 percent rate in the prior period.

That helped to lift economic growth at a 2 percent pace, an acceleration from the second quarters' 1.3 percent advance.

The spurt in spending as the quarter ended, which was concentrated in long-lasting goods such as autos and Apple Inc's iPhone 5, provides momentum that should help support growth in the fourth quarter. Some analysts, however, warned that spending could weaken near year-end if consumers start to worry about the potential for higher taxes at the start of the year.

The United States faces a so-called fiscal cliff of higher taxes and lower government spending that could suck $600 billion out of the economy next year unless lawmakers act.

INCOMES LAGGING

Tepid income growth as the labor market struggles to gain speed also threatens to undermine spending, which is an even more important pillar for growth than usual given signs that businesses are cutting back on investment.

While personal income last month grew 0.4 percent, the most since March and a step-up from August's 0.1 percent gain, the amount of money at the disposal of households after inflation and taxes was flat.

That meant households had to cut back on saving to fund purchases. The saving rate slipped to 3.3 percent last month, the lowest since November 2011, from 3.7 percent in August.

"We have only seen two lower readings on the savings rate in the recovery, which suggests that the consumer has virtually no cushion to absorb the scheduled tax hikes at the beginning of 2013," said John Ryding, chief economist at RDQ Economics in New York.

Spending last month rose even as households paid 13 cents per gallon more for gasoline. Spending on durable goods rose solidly, while outlays for services rebounded 0.2 percent after declining by the same margin in August.

The rise in gasoline prices kept inflation pressures somewhat elevated. A price gauge in the report increased 0.4 percent for the second month in a row, taking its gain over the past 12 months up to 1.7 percent from 1.5 percent in August.

But a core measure that strips out food and energy costs edged up 0.1 percent for a third straight month, suggesting the rise in overall inflation will be short-lived.

In the 12 months to September, the core index was up 1.7 percent after rising 1.6 percent in August.

The Federal Reserve has a 2 percent inflation target and the moderate rise in core inflation should offer comfort to the central bank, which has been buying $40 billion in mortgage-backed debt each month in an effort to push borrowing costs lower and spur faster job growth.
