Flying or driving?

Many years ago, we spent three days in Washington, D. C. en route to Boston and Maine (family in both of last two places). This was in the good old days when in-laws had a lake cottage in Maine. Our vacations would last 5-6 weeks total. Miss those days.

ANYway, from central Arkansas, we made that trip in probably 8 days up (including D.C.) and 4 days back, just counting the driving days.

Another year we incorporated a trip through a little part of Canada, as well as Niagara Falls.

Great trips, both of them. I hope you can make it happen.

btw, our eldest lives in Portland, ME. Quite often, he and his gf take the train to Boston, spend a couple days, and head back to ME. They think that is fun.

Depends on how much time you want to spend in each place, I guess. For all that is in it, Boston proper is a fairly small place. You could walk it in an afternoon. "Maine" is pretty vague. Without a more focused idea of what you have in mind, it is hard to comment. DC is huge, painfully urban, IMO well described by JFK's famous line ("a city of northern charm and southern efficiency"), and has a truly enormous amount of stuff to see. You could easily spend half or more of your time there and not really see everything.

I just did a quick look at the mileage. Wash DC > Boston > Bar Harbor > Niagra Falls is almost 1500 miles so you'll have about 30 hours of driving just getting from place to place. Here is a rough itinerary that might work. Not sure where you are coming from but here it goes.

1 day getting to DC
3 days total driving time between major stops
3 days in DC
1 day in Boston
2 days in Maine
1 day at Niagra Falls
1 day getting home from Niagra Falls

That's 12 days of pretty intense sight-seeing and traveling. It's doable and you'll have lots of highlights and memories but you'll still miss a lot. Look at it this way...you'll have lots to see on your next trip to these areas.

No, don't do both (especially starting from the Milwaukee area). My suggestions are to first do the Capitol government (is there still an FBI tour? Your son might love that) and museums, Monticello, Mount Vernon, Williamsburg stuff for one trip, before high school.

Then the next summer or so, do the New England American Revolution sites (Boston, Concord) and American literature (Hawthorne, Thoreau, Dickinson, and Maine's Steven King) and seashores of the Cape and Maine beaches, and swing home through Niagara Falls. And see Fenway Park of course.

Better yet, separately take your DW alone to the Falls and then Montreal for some smoochie smoochie romance.

I agree that New England, Washington DC, and Western NY (Niagra Falls) are three different vacations. By the same token, you can accomplish the equivalent of two vacations in 12 days. But not three vacations.

While you can walk around Boston in a day, that's all you'll be able to do in that day, i.e., walk around Boston. In essence, you can visit the Freedom Trail in a day, enjoying stops along the way such as Faneuil Hall, and perhaps do a duck tour... maybe. But you'll need a lot more time to "visit Boston". If you tried to do it all in a day, you won't be able to fit in a game at Fenway (which might be a very attractive part of a vacation in Boston for some), and you surely won't be able to visit Salem (3/4 day, between the maritime museum and all the Witch trial historical stuff, not to mention the Peabody-Essex Museum if your son is inclined toward historical art and culture in any way).

You can spend most of a full day in either Old Sturbridge Village or Plymouth Plantation (though I would recommending doing both in the same trip, since they "cover the same bases"). You may also want to consider fitting in a whale watching tour while you're here.

Then there's Minuteman National Historical Park, which actually meanders in sections from the Lexington Common ("the shot heard 'round the world"), through the Old Battle Road that winds through Lincoln MA ("The redcoats are Coming!"), complete with restored colonial homes with scheduled and self-guided tours, to Concord and the Old North Bridge. And despite living here for so many years, I only just realized that beyond the Old North Bridge is The Old Manse! (Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne both called the Manse home for a time.)

And then there's Maine. There are lots of options for spending a day in Maine, though I don't really associate Maine with someplace I'd take a 13 year old to, necessarily. I think there's more than enough to full a full week just within Eastern Massachusetts itself.

And if you think it is difficult to fit "Visiting Boston" into just one week (and after reading what I wrote above, if I did a good job, then you should think it would be difficult to do so), "Visiting Washington DC" in just one week would be even more difficult. The Capitol; the White House; the Washington Memorial; the Jefferson Memorial; the Viet Nam War Memorial; the Roosevelt Memorial; the King Memorial; Arlington National; the Smithsonian itself, and its associated museums - History and Technology (name has changed, but I don't remember what they're calling it now); Air and Space; Frick (art). Then: The National Archives; the Bureau of Engraving and Printing; the Holocaust Museum; Ford's Theater; Kennedy Center. And that's just right off the very top of my head. As I sit typing this sentence a dozen others just popped into my head. And I've never lived there ... that just from my own personal visits to the place, over the years. I'd type some more in, but I've got to get ready for church.

Alistair Overeem pokes fun at Junior dos Santos during UFC 155

Before Junior Dos Santos' bout with Cain Velasquez was over, another opponent was poking fun of the former champ. Alistair Overeem was scheduled to fight dos Santos in May, but was suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission because of high testosterone levels before the fight.

Overeem tweeted:

Ouch! Though Overeem has a beef with dos Santos, he has to get through Antonio Silva on Feb. 2 first. Overeem applied for a license this week. He will have to appear before a hearing on Jan. 8 before he is approved.

If dos Santos and Overeem do end up fighting, it won't be for the title. Velasquez beat dos Santos in a one-sided, five-round decision on Saturday night at UFC 155.

Beavers stunned as Texas rallies to win Alamo Bowl 31-27

Updated yesterday at 10:07 PM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- David Ash threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, the last a 36-yard strike to Marquise Goodwin with 2:24 left, to give Texas a 31-27 comeback victory over No. 15 Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night.

Complete Beavers coverage

The Longhorns (9-4) never led before Goodwin scored his second touchdown on a deep post pattern, just a play after Texas converted a fourth-and-1 play to keep its chances alive.

Storm Woods ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns for Oregon State (9-4). The Beavers left stunned after looking as though they would wrap up their first 10-win season since 2006.

The victory was a dose of much-needed good news for Texas after coming into the game under a cloud of questions following the suspensions of two players.

Budget battle sends mixed signals on health care | NOLA.com

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Confused about the federal budget struggle? So are doctors, hospital administrators and other medical professionals who serve the 100 million Americans covered by Medicare and Medicaid. Rarely has the government sent so many conflicting signals in so short a time about the bottom line for the health care industry.

Cuts are coming, says Washington, and some could be really big. Yet more government spending is also being promised as President Barack Obama's health care overhaul advances and millions of uninsured people move closer to getting government-subsidized coverage.

"Imagine a person being told they are going to get a raise, but their taxes are also going to go up and they are going to be paying more for gas," said Thornton Kirby, president of the South Carolina Hospital Association. "They don't know if they are going to be taking home more or less. That's the uncertainty when there are so many variables in play."

Real money is at stake for big hospitals and small medical practices alike. Government at all levels pays nearly half the nation's health care tab, with federal funds accounting for most of that.

It's widely assumed that a budget deal will mean cuts for Medicare service providers. But which ones? How much? And will Medicaid and subsidies to help people get coverage under the health care law also be cut?

As House Speaker John Boehner famously said: "God only knows." The Ohio Republican was referring to the overall chances of getting a budget deal, but the same can be said of how health care -- one-sixth of the economy -- will fare.

"There is no political consensus to do anything significant," said Dan Mendelson, president of Avalere Health, a market analysis firm. "There is a collective walking away from things that matter. All the stuff on the lists of options becomes impossible, because there is no give-and-take."

As if things weren't complicated enough, doctors keep facing their own recurring fiscal cliff, separate from the bigger budget battle but embroiled in it nonetheless.

Come Jan. 1, doctors and certain other medical professionals face a 26.5 percent cut in their Medicare payments, the consequence of a 1990s deficit-reduction law gone awry. Lawmakers failed to repeal or replace that law even after it became obvious that it wasn't working. Instead, Congress usually passes a "doc fix" each year to waive the cuts.

This year, the fix got hung up in larger budget politics. Although a reprieve is expected sooner or later, doctors don't like being told to sit in the congressional waiting room.

"It seems like there is a presumption that physicians and patients can basically tolerate this kind of uncertainty while the Congress goes through whatever political machinations they are going through," said Dr. Jeremy Lazarus, president of the American Medical Association. "Our concern is that physician uncertainty and anxiety about being able to pay the bills will have an impact on taking care of patients."

A recent government survey indicates that Medicare beneficiaries are having more problems when trying to find a new primary care doctor, and Lazarus said that will only get worse.

Adding to their unease, doctors also face an additional reduction if automatic spending cuts go through. Those would be triggered if Obama and congressional leaders are unable to bridge partisan differences and strike a deal. They are part of the combination of tax increases and spending cuts dubbed the "fiscal cliff."

Medicare service providers would get hit with a 2 percent across-the-board cut, but Medicaid and subsidies for the uninsured under Obama's health care overhaul would be spared. The Medicare cut adds up to about $120 billion over ten years, with 40 percent falling on hospitals, according to Avalare's analysis. Nursing homes, Medicare Advantage plans and home health agencies also get hit.

The American Hospital Association says that would lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of hospital jobs in a labor intensive industry that also generates employment for other businesses in local communities.

"It's very difficult to believe hospitals can absorb the kinds of numbers they are talking about without reducing service or workforce," said Kirby, the hospital association head. "You may decide that a service a hospital provides is not affordable -- for example, obstetrics in a rural community -- if you're making a little bit of money or losing a little bit of money by continuing to deliver babies in a rural community."

Independent analysts like Mendelson doubt that a 2 percent Medicare cut to hospitals would be catastrophic but say it will cost jobs somewhere.

Even if there is a budget deal, the squeeze will be on.

The administration has proposed $400 billion in health care cuts so far in the budget talks, coming mainly from Medicare spending. That's only a starting point as far as Republicans are concerned. They also want to pare back Medicaid and Obama's health care law and have also sought an increase in the eligibility age for Medicare.

Internet Business Mastery ? 3 Reasons Why Prospects Want to Get ...

Wow, take it easy folks! I mean professionally here. Internet business mastery is about influencing prospects to get in bed with you, to partner with you and to make money online with you. You lay out delectable bread crumbs and the rest is history. People have no choice but to gobble up your content and partner with you in due time.

Internet Business Mastery

Reason 1 ? Your Content Is Delicious

Hey Ryan how in the hell do you post 10 or 14 times to your blogs each day? Really what do you use PLR or a ton of guest posts or what? Yeah I want to work with you. Yeah I will do a testimonial for you without you even asking for one. I get these people in bed?.ok we become friends?.because I created like a machine. Oh by the way, the answer to the above questions: I am a hungry son of a bitch who wants to grow my internet businesses so I make no lame excuses and write 10 to 14 posts a day.

Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club v Nondescripts Cricket ... - Bettor

Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club v Nondescripts Cricket Club ? Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group A) ? Match Update ? Nondescripts CC triumphs by 84 runs

A massive century from opening batsman Niroshan Dickwella set the Nondescripts Cricket Club up for a comfortable 84-run win over the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club, in their rain-affected Group A match in the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played on December 27 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.

The Tamil Union CAC won the toss and elected to field first, but while Suranga Lakmal (10-0-52-2) and Sachithra Serasinghe (10-0-38-2) chipped in with decent performances, the team?s bowlers were unable to stop Niroshan Dickwella in time.

Dickwella opened for his team and smashed a confident 140. While he was unable to receive help from his fellow top-order batsmen ? skipper Upul Tharanga (2) and Farveez Maharoof (11) ? both of whom were dismissed early by Serasinghe, number four batsman Chamara Kapugedera (59) put in a solid performance, and joined Dickwella for a 148-run partnership for the third wicket.

Their combined efforts got the team total from 25 to 173 by the 34th over, after which Kapugedera succumbed to the assaults of Viraj Pushpakumara. Angelo Perera (16) followed soon after, bowled by Lakmal, and Madushanka Ekanayake finally succeeded in dislodging Dickwella by trapping him lbw in the 45th over.

Jehan Mubarak (31) was the last batsman of note, and the remainder of the line-up fell without offering much resistance. ?Lahiru Madushanka (5), Tharindu Kaushal (2), and Ramesh Subasinghe (0) were all insipid, and by the end of 50 overs, with 9 wickets down, and Sohan Boralessa (4*) and Dushmantha Chameera (3*) at the crease, the team posted a final total of 286.

The Tamil Union CAC failed to compensate during their turn at bat, and Lahiru Madushanka (5-0-16-3) and Sohan Boralessa (7-3-10-2) succeeded in keeping the opposition?s batsmen in check. Top-order batsman Mahela Udawatte (42) was the only one who managed to put up a competitive performance, while the rest failed to apply themselves at the crease.

The wickets fell swiftly as TM Sampath (17) was trapped lbw by Boralessa, while Madushanka took care of Kithuruwan Vithanage (17) and Udawatte. Skipper Sachithra Serasinghe (19), Rumesh Buddika (3), and Denuwan Rajakaruna (1) all made swift exits, and the team had only managed to work their way up to 116 when the match was interrupted by rain. As per D/L calculations, the target would have been 201 runs from 28.2 overs, and the Nondescripts CC claimed an 84-run win.

Network Security Challenges for Business in 2013

One might say that network security is a living organism, constantly changing, ebbing and flowing with the ever-expanding breadth of new technology. This should be a concern for business owners using digital networks as an efficient way to conduct work and provide services. There are certainly ways for companies to secure their networks and servers, but there is always a cyber criminal waiting to find cracks in any system. Keeping this in mind, here are some major cyber problems heading into the New Year:

Passwords ? 2012 was certainly a rough time for many computer users ? at least for those who didn?t choose creative and tough-to-guess passwords. This was especially true for many celebrities who got their email accounts hacked by choosing security questions a simple Google search could crack. With the advent of brute force password attacks potentially behind us, it seems like more and more hackers are gaining legitimate access to accounts by merely guessing passwords. Make sure your company has a strict system for creating difficult passwords.

Mobile ? The ability for business owners and employees to run an entire network on a smartphone or tablet is nothing sort of awesome. However, hackers are increasingly interested in gaining access to your phone?s information as well ? whether you are playing Angry Birds or swiping a client credit card using a reader like Square. Keeping your smartphone as up-to-date with security as your office network is a major concern going into next year.

Clouds ? The cloud-based system of data management is a cost-effective and simplistic way of storing your company?s information whilst keeping it synced across many devices. As small and medium-sized businesses begin to adopt this technology, clouds will need to become more secure, providing the safety that business information needs.

To help prevent any cyber crimes like theft or data attacks from happening at your business, please contact an independent network security company.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

Katie Holmes' Broadway play 'Dead Accounts' closes

NEW YORK (AP) ? Katie Holmes' return to Broadway will be much shorter than she would have liked.

The former Mrs. Cruise's play "Dead Accounts" will close within a week of the new year. Producers said Thursday that Theresa Rebeck's drama will close on Jan. 6 after 27 previews and 44 performances.

The show, which opened to poor reviews on Nov. 29, stars Norbert Leo Butz as Holmes' onstage brother who returns to his Midwest home with a secret. Rebeck created the first season of NBC's "Smash" and several well-received plays including "Seminar" and "Mauritius."

Holmes, who became a star in the teen soap opera "Dawson's Creek," made her Broadway debut in the 2008 production of "All My Sons." She was married to Tom Cruise from 2006 until this year.

2013 might be the year for first 'alien Earth'

The first truly Earthlike alien planet is likely to be spotted next year, an epic discovery that would cause humanity to reassess its place in the universe.

While astronomers have found a number of exoplanets over the last few years that share one or two key traits with our own world ? such as size or inferred surface temperature ? they have yet to bag a bona fide "alien Earth." But that should change in 2013, scientists say.

"I'm very positive that the first Earth twin will be discovered next year," said Abel Mendez, who runs the Planetary Habitability Laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo.

Astronomers discovered the first exoplanet orbiting a sunlike star in 1995. Since they, they've spotted more than 800 worlds beyond our own solar system, and many more candidates await confirmation by follow-up observations. [The Strangest Alien Planets (Gallery)]

NASA's prolific Kepler Space Telescope, for example, has flagged more than 2,300 potential planets since its March 2009 launch. Only 100 or so have been confirmed to date, but mission scientists estimate that at least 80 percent will end up being the real deal.

The first exoplanet finds were scorching-hot Jupiter-like worlds that orbit close to their parent? stars, because they were the easiest to detect. But over time, new instruments came online and planet hunters honed their techniques, enabling the discovery of smaller and more distantly orbiting planets ? places more like Earth.

Last December, for instance, Kepler found a planet 2.4 times larger than Earth orbiting in its star's habitable zone ? that just-right range of distances where liquid water, and perhaps life as we know it, can exist.

The Kepler team and other research groups have detected several other worlds like that one (which is known as Kepler-22b), bringing the current tally of potentially habitable exoplanets to nine by Mendez' reckoning.

Zeroing in on Earth's twin
None of the worlds in Mendez' Habitable Exoplanets Catalog is small enough to be a true Earth twin. The handful of Earth-size planets spotted to date all orbit too close to their stars to be suitable for life. [Gallery: 9 Potentially Habitable Exoplanets]

But it's only a matter of time before a small, rocky planet is spotted in the habitable zone ? and Mendez isn't the only researcher who thinks that time is coming soon.

"The first planet with a measured size, orbit and incident stellar flux that is suitable for life is likely to be announced in 2013," said Geoff Marcy, a veteran planet hunter at the University of California at Berkeley and a member of the Kepler team.

Mendez and Marcy both think this watershed find will be made by Kepler, which spots planets by flagging the telltale brightness dips caused when they pass in front of their parent stars from the instrument's perspective.

Kepler needs to witness three of these "transits" to detect a planet, so its early discoveries were tilted toward close-orbiting worlds (which transit more frequently). But over time, the telescope has been spotting more and more distantly orbiting planets ? including some in the habitable zone.

An instrument called HARPS (short for High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher) is also a top contender, having already spotted a number of potentially habitable worlds. HARPS, which sits on the European Southern Observatory's 3.6-meter telescope in Chile, allows researchers to detect the tiny gravitational wobbles that orbiting planets induce in their parent stars.

"HARPS should be able to find the most interesting and closer Earth twins," Mendez told Space.com via email, noting that many Kepler planets are too far away to characterize in detail. "A combination of its sensitivity and long-term observations is now paying off."

And there are probably many alien Earths out there to be found in our Milky Way galaxy, researchers say.

"Estimating carefully, there are 200 billion stars that host at least 50 billion planets, if not more," Mikko Tuomi, of the University of Hertfordshire in England, told Space.com via email.

"Assuming that 1:10,000 are similar to the Earth would give us 5,000,000 such planets," added Tuomi, who led teams reporting the discovery of several potentially habitable planet candidates this year, including an exoplanet orbiting the star Tau Ceti just 11.9 light-years from Earth. "So I would say we are talking about at least thousands of such planets."

What it would mean
Whenever the first Earth twin is confirmed, the discovery will likely have a profound effect on humanity.

"We humans will look up into the night sky, much as we gaze across a large ocean," Marcy told Space.com via email. "We will know that the cosmic ocean contains islands and continents by the billions, able to support both primitive life and entire civilizations."

Marcy hopes such a find will prod our species to take its first real steps beyond its native solar system.

"Humanity will close its collective eyes, and set sail for Alpha Centauri," Marcy said, referring to the closest star system to our own, where an Earth-size planet was discovered earlier this year.

"The small steps for humanity will be a giant leap for our species. Sending robotic probes to the nearest stars will constitute the greatest adventure we Homo sapiens have ever attempted," Marcy added. "This massive undertaking will require the cooperation and contribution from all major nations around world. In so doing, we will take our first tentative steps into the cosmic ocean and enhance our shared sense of purpose on this terrestrial shore."

Stocks open higher on housing data, but 'cliff' looms

39 min.

Stocks opened higher Wednesday as investors returned from the Christmas holiday, following a better-than-expected Case-Shiller home price index and as President Obama cut short his vacation in Hawaii to deal with the "fiscal cliff" negotiations.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened in positive territory, led by Caterpillar.?

The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq also gained at the open. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), widely considered the best gauge of fear in the market, traded near 18.

The S&P/Case Shiller home price index of 20 major cities rose 0.7 percent in October on a seasonally adjusted basis, topping expectations for a gain of 0.5 percent. And prices in the 20 cities jumped 4.3 percent from last year, beating forecasts for an increase of 4.0 percent.?

Obama will return to Washington early on Thursday, according to the White House, to deal with the deadlocked talks between Democrats and Republicans on what to do with $600 billion in tax increases and automatic spending cuts, due to kick in on Jan. 1.

Wall Street has been increasingly worried that the two sides may not reach a deal in time. Art Cashin, director of floor operations for UBS, said such an outcome would result in a 95 percent chance of a U.S. recession next year.

The worries over the fiscal cliff and an extremely weak report on the holiday shopping season could put retail stocks under pressure.?

Sales in the two months before Christmas rose just 0.7 compared to last year, the slowest rate of growth since 2008, according to the MasterCard Advisors Spending Pulse. Analysts had been expecting growth of 3 to 4 percent.

Amazon.com and Netflix were both slightly lower after an outage at an Amazon web service center impacted Netflix subscribers in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America on Christmas eve. Service was fully restored by Christmas day.?

Stocks in Europe were closed for the Boxing Day holiday. In Asia, markets closed higher on thin volumes, with Japanese stocks rallying to hit nine-month highs on a weaker yen.

Coming Up This Week:

  • THURSDAY: Jobless claims, new home sales, consumer confidence
  • FRIDAY: Pending home sales

Philippines: Christmas Fires Kill 7, Leave Thousands Homeless In Manila (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

MANILA, Philippines -- Angry residents beat a man to death and threw rocks at firefighters after a shantytown fire left thousands of people homeless, and another Christmas Day blaze in the Philippine capital left seven people dead, officials said Wednesday.

A resident was beaten to death by his neighbors after shouting that he started Tuesday's shantytown fire in suburban San Juan city, Senior Fire Officer Domingo Cabog said.

The man was reportedly drunk and was not responsible for the fire. Cabog said the fire started in a house where children were playing with lighted candles.

Some 5,000 people were left homeless and 13 people were hurt in the shantytown. The injured included two firefighters and a volunteer hit by rocks that were thrown by residents who were impatient and tried to grab fire hoses to save their own shanties, Cabog said.

As firefighters struggled to penetrate the narrow alleys, one of them was mauled by a mob and rescued by a police officer, Cabog said. Two fire trucks also were damaged in the violence.

"It's Christmas and many of the men in the neighborhood were drunk," Cabog said, adding that some residents brandished knives.

The homeless were given shelter at a gymnasium and in tents near a basketball court. Police were investigating the beating death but no one was immediately arrested Wednesday.

In Quezon City, another of the 16 cities that make up metropolitan Manila, a predawn fire Tuesday killed a veterinarian and six household members who were trapped inside a house, said arson investigator Rosendo Cabillan. The blaze was suspected to be triggered by an overloaded electrical circuit, he said.

Irrational: No BioShock PS Vita until Sony and 2K Games work out a deal

Irrational Games' Ken Levine says that BioShock Vita is no closer to release than it was when first announced back at E3 2011. The reason: Sony and Take-Two Interactive are still working out the business kinks.

BioShock Infinite has been delayed yet again, bumped from February 2013 into March to allow Irrational Games to polish its adventure game to a fine sheen. From the sounds of Digital Trends? latest preview, the sequel will be well worth the wait. Now that BioShock Infinite is in the home stretch, 2K Games will naturally turn its eye towards the fourth BioShock game it has announced, namely the untitled BioShock side story for PlayStation Vita. Patient Vita owners shouldn?t hold their breath for that game, though. It isn?t coming out anytime soon.

BioShock creative mastermind Ken Levine said that while he?s got a good plan for the game, Sony and 2K Games are still working on the business side of things.

?Where the Vita stands right now, it?s in the hands of the business people at Take-Two and the business people at Sony working out, hey, what happens in these business discussions,? Levine told Eurogamer, ?Fortunately I don?t have to take part in it any more because I sold my company a long time ago. [BioShock Vita] is something I?m still very interested in. I still have a cool design for it. It?s a question of, do those guys come to find the right mix that makes everybody happy to make that happen??

Levine announced BioShock for PS Vita during Sony?s E3 2011 press conference, saying it would be an original title and not a port of Infinite. That still holds true according to Levine. Why announce a game that hasn?t even moved into pre-production though?

?Sony was launching this platform and it was important that they had a show of support from people no matter what stage of development they were at. Sony has been such a good partner to us, and I?m not just blowing smoke. [I] tried not to oversell it when I went out there. I just said, ?We?re doing this.? I didn?t want to present something that I didn?t have a lot of clarity on at that point.?

Sony confirmed a number of major publishing and development partners for the platform when it first announced the PS Vita but in the 18 months since that E3 press conference, support for the system has languished. A partnership with Activision to bring the Call of Duty series to PS Vita didn?t result in a console-style shooter but Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified, a barebones arcade style shooter with limited multiplayer. The last thing Take-Two Interactive needs is to commit one of its growing brands to Sony?s handheld only to release a subpar product to a miniscule audience.

Five Tips to Protect Your Home and Family During the Holidays ...

Attorney
(866) 735-1102 Ext 430

Posted by David MittlemanDecember 05, 2012 1:30 PM

The holidays are a wonderful time of year--sipping hot cocoa with friends, sitting by the fireplace, eating delicious meals, receiving gifts...but it's also burglars' favorite time of year, too. According to the FBI, each year nearly 400,000 burglaries take place between November and December each year. Experts say that families should be extra careful around the holidays with the following tips.

  1. Install a home security system. One of the biggest deterrents to burglary is a home alarm system. In fact, a Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice study found that installing one reduces the likelihood of a burglary by 20%.
  2. Don't advertise your travel plans online. That's right, don't announce it to the world on Facebook or your other social networking sites. It's like inviting a burglar over to your house while you're away. Also, don't leave your house looking like you're gone. Instead, get a neighbor to watch your house (if you can), leave a car in the driveway, and have your mail and newspapers picked up each day so that they don't pile up and make it clear that you're gone.
  3. Don't display your gifts. Regardless of whether you celebrate Hanukkah or Christmas, burglars will gladly take your gifts dazzling underneath the tree or elsewhere. You don't want to make them visible through your home's windows or doors. Even after your presents are unwrapped, burglars are known to go through trash cans looking for empty boxes that indicate you've got some new pricey goods like that TV or computer. Cut up the boxes and make sure not to throw the big boxes on the street to be thrown away.
  4. Double-check your home's doors and windows. Burglars will look for the easy way out and in--like through unsturdy windows and doors. Both new and old homes can be affected, since newer homes tend to be built with cheaper materials and older homes may show signs of rot or decay. Go to your home improvement store and talk to the employees about what you can do to protect your home during the holidays.
  5. Be aware of your surroundings. This might sound kind of paranoid, but most burglars live in the neighborhood where they are likely to steal. When bringing in merchandise from a shopping trip, make sure not to show it off or make it too obvious that you've got new and expensive items in your home.

Here's to a happy and safe holiday season!
